Chapter 20
In the southern-most wing at the Laboratory, opposite where Neil and Dylan were kept, Kellan was connected to monitors and various contraptions that would tell the doctors if everything was okay with him. They were checking to be sure that there were no injuries or internal damage. It was important to be sure after the fight he had with the Seekers and the tangled net that had been used to confine him.
Honestly, they couldn’t permit Kellan to be injured or damaged after all they put into him, and all the years of prepping him for combat. He was a billion dollar project that would be put into action to help ensure everybody’s future survival. They were concerned for him.
The clinicians carefully nursed his scratches and bruises back to health before sending him back to his cell where he was able to rest and think about the stupid thing he’d done. They were punishing him for being a bad boy and running away from home.
In the room where Kellan was strapped shirtless to a chair being examined, his first crush, Seth was also there as part of the medical team.
This time however, Kellan no longer had the affection for Seth that he had before he escaped the facility a few days ago, and Neil was the reason why.
Seth was a good guy, and probably always would be. He never purposely meant to harm Kellan, and would probably never do it intentionally. He was around only as the nurse who took samples of Kellan’s blood, shaved his chest, and checked his vitals every now and then. They talked a lot about nothing: it was more like chitchat, played cards, challenged each other with board and computer games, interacted, as well as schooled together. They were like brothers, and as far back as Kellan could remember, Seth was always around. There didn’t seem to be a time where Kellan knew Seth to ever be much younger or older than what he was now. The man didn’t seem to age. That philosophical bit of evidence got Kellan thinking.
Seth was simply an all-around nice guy, pleasant, carefree, and friendly. Maybe that’s why Kellan liked Seth, and confused his kindness with love. Seth always made him feel adored and safe, so in return, Kellan loved him, or thought he did, until he met Neil who really touched his heart and tugged on it, and when that happened, Kellan discovered the difference between love and admiration.
As soon as the medical tests on Kellan were completed, Seth had the honor of taking him back to his room. It was a civilized walk, unlike the one he took earlier when he was manhandled so roughly by the brawny MPs as they dragged him to the lab to be tested. Seth was gentle as usual and treated Kellan as he would his own family. Like a brother.
“Are you doing alright, Kellan?” Seth pushed the cell door open and held it.
“As good as I can be,” Kellan answered.
“Why’d you do it?” Seth asked.
